Pam Raphael pulled up to the Arizona State Capitol on Tuesday afternoon bearing ice-cold treats and red-hot anger. “I am disgusted,” Ms. Raphael, 50, said as she walked toward a rally by Democrats railing against the decision. The decision upending abortion care in a critically important battleground state inspired passionate reactions from Arizonans across the political divide, ranging from elation to disgust. Many Democrats, moderate independents and some Republicans said the Arizona Supreme Court had gone too far. But it was far from clear Tuesday that the decision would tip the balance in the November presidential election.

CNN —Shares of Fisker, a California-based electric vehicle startup, were halted Monday. Its sole product, the Fisker Ocean electric SUV, was produced in Austria under contract by third-party manufacturer Magna Steyr. Last year, 10,000 SUVs were produced but, in its earnings report, the company said only about half had been delivered to customers. The video was titled, “This is the Worst Car I’ve Ever Reviewed.”“Do not buy this version of the Fisker Ocean,” reads the video’s description. But, besides its own quality issues, Fisker had to deal with much greater competition from established automakers than had existed when the company was established.

The shaved ice features unique textures, temperatures, and toppings. AdvertisementA few other customers ordered just before I did, so I patiently waited for my shaved ice to be prepared. CNN —Diamonds are forever – especially for Emily Ratajkowski, who has chosen to turn her engagement ring into something entirely new following her split from her film producer husband, Sebastian Bear-McClard. With the help of Alison Chemla, creative director of jewelry brand Alison Lou, Ratajkowski worked to remake her old engagement ring, which featured a pear-shaped and a princess-cut diamond, into two separate rings. “The rings represent my own personal evolution,” the model told Vogue. Ratajkowski told Vogue she was inspired by a story in The Paris Review in which the author writes of a grandmother's ring made of stones from her previous marriages. “Somehow, these rings feel like a reminder that I can make myself happy in ways I never imagined,” she added.

CNN —The idea of watching movie sex scenes with your children might make many parents recoil in horror – but Elizabeth Hurley isn’t bothered. In fact, filming her upcoming movie - an erotic thriller - was made all the more “liberating” by the knowledge her son was behind the camera, she has said. “It’s kind of liberating to work with your family, I may do it again,” she added about her experience filming the erotic crime thriller, which is slated for release in April. Damian Hurley added: “We felt in our comfort zone, it’s very strange. I think, also, when you’re on an independent film, you have 18 days to shoot, every single second counts.

Tusk told BI that Last Brand has "continuously expanded their product line smack dab into our backyard." According to Gupta, the founders renamed the brand Quince in 2020 upon its official launch to play on the word quintessential, a reference to the brand selling premium essentials. "Off the record, we were eating at a sister restaurant to a three-Michelin-starred restaurant named Quince in SF, and we really loved the name," Gupta said. For now, the restaurant Quince will continue to deal with confused customers. "I know that we're outmatched and all that, but it kind of left us no choice," Tusk told BI.

Read previewIt took a while for me to realize a common name was the best type of name for my son. On one hand, my son could stand out immediately like a rockstar — memorable, fun, free-spirited; on the other, he could seamlessly slot into society, a Daniel among Daniels. While unique names reflect a shift in our society toward a culture of individualism, they also have drawbacks that I was keen to avoid. And ironically, in a sea of unconventional names, Daniel stands out in an understated way. Firstly, my son has never been the only Daniel in school, so when someone calls his name, every Daniel within earshot turns around.

“Frankly, I hate dialogue,” Villeneuve told The Times of London. I don’t remember movies because of a good line, I remember movies because of a strong image. This supposed truism is heard everywhere in the film world and even taught to film writers. Cinema has never been a language of “pure image and sound.”Even in the age of silent films, dialogue rendered as inter-titles was critical to cinema. Charlie Chaplin stars in his 1931 silent film, "City Lights."

Brushed Gold Becomes the Finish of the Moment
  + stars: | 2024-03-05 | by ( Ming Liu | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: 1 min
Take a back seat, polished gold. Your shiny and reflective surface has been looking a bit too brash recently as the matte, low-key look of brushed gold has been catching everyone’s eye. At the high jewelry presentations in January in Paris, for example, Chaumet used brushed gold to great effect in Un Air de Chaumet, a collection that was an ode to lightness and movement. The Plumes d’or tiara featured a burst of brushed and textured rose gold feathers that alternated with diamond-set white gold ones, the contrast creating a play of light. The tiara could be transformed into a brooch or a head ornament, with an asymmetrically set 2.30-carat pear-shape diamond offering a figurative interpretation of a bird.

In a top-floor atrium in downtown San Francisco on Thursday evening, tech workers from Google, Slack, X and Mozilla mingled next to a pair of cardboard cutouts of Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya. Alex Stamos, the former head of security at Facebook, was also spotted. “Do you think they’ll let me take home one of the freaky sandworm popcorn buckets?” someone in the crowd tittered. The techies were all there to celebrate Silicon Valley’s newest obsession: “Dune: Part 2,” the latest movie adapted from the Frank Herbert-authored science-fiction saga, which helped inspire many of them to become interested in technology. The film, which follows the 2021 installment “Dune,” sold an estimated $81.5 million in tickets in the United States and Canada over the weekend, the biggest opening for a Hollywood film since “Barbie.”

New York CNN —McDonald’s new trendy beverage-led spinoff CosMc’s is pulling in younger customers at a faster clip than a typical Mickey D’s with Big Macs and fries, according to one early traffic estimate. McDonald’s unveiled its CosMc’s specialty drinks cafe spinoff in December, with the first location opened in Bolingbrook, Illinois. That first CosMc’s location saw more than double the number of visits that a typical McDonald’s saw chainwide in the same month, despite only being open since Dec.7, according to a report from Placer.ai, which uses location data from mobile devices to estimate visits to specific locations. CosMc’s generated triple the number of visits per square foot than an average McDonald’s restaurant (CosMc’s has a roughly 2,500 square feet footprint compared to 4,000 to 4,500 square feet for the average McDonald’s location), the firm said. RJ Hottovy, head of analytical research with Placer.ai, said that the one CosMc’s location sometimes has to accommodate spillover traffic in a separate parking lot because the drive-thru lanes were often at full capacity.

The Christmas Price Index, now in its 40th year, is a tongue-in-cheek take on the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Consumer Price Index and is meant to highlight market changes over time while educating consumers about the economy. In 1994, he became the first Black chef to win the James Beard Foundation's Best Chef Award. The famed chef touched on his ideology during a 1994 interview shared on YouTube by the African American Chefs Hall of Fame. Patrick's remarks weren't a knock against Black American cuisine. Instead, it was an unapologetic declaration that Black chefs can't — and won't — be pigeonholed. Black chefs at that time were fighting stereotypes that they could only excel at making soul food.

For Nadia Caffesse, that pain came in the form of a number of tiny needles lodged in her hands, forearms and chest. In September 2006, Mrs. Caffesse, now 45, and her family were driving through Big Bend National Park in Texas, where she found herself admiring the native blind prickly pear cactuses jutting out along the rocky roadside. She was violating a cardinal rule when visiting a national park: Take only memories and leave only footprints. “They are a poetic threat.”She knew she’d made a mistake the second she grabbed the paddle of the cactus. “The pain was instant, searing and, because of the diffuse nature of all those tiny needles, unrelenting,” Mrs. Caffesse recalled.

BERLIN, Nov 9 (Reuters) - U.S. electric vehicle startup Fisker (FSR.N) is negotiating with five carmakers over a partnership to secure additional production capacity for its vehicles, its Chief Executive Henrik Fisker said on Thursday. We can bring them to market fast - we just need the capacity," Fisker said, speaking to Reuters in Berlin. The CEO told Reuters in May he was exploring partnerships with everyone from suppliers to tech companies to scale up production. The SUV, called PEAR, will be built with Foxconn in Ohio, but further capacity is needed for both models. Still, it cut its annual production target in August and adjusted pricing in October as it grappled with a slowdown in electric-vehicle demand.

At its auction on Tuesday, Christie's sold dozens of rare jewellery pieces worth a combined total of more than $77 million. In a separate sale on Monday, Christie's sold a Rolex wristwatch worn by Marlon Brando in the 1979 movie "Apocalypse Now" for more than 4.5 million Swiss francs ($4.99 million). What if Wine and Cider Had a Baby?

Wine is made by fermenting grapes or other fruit, although apple and pear wines are distinctive enough to have earned their own categories, cider and perry. But a growing number of producers are blurring the styles, blending grape wines and ciders or fermenting grapes and other fruit together, with remarkable delicious results. Some bottles are collaborations between wine and cider specialists, but most who are making these blends are natural winemakers, who tend to be more experimental and adventurous and less bound by industry and market conventions. Andy Brennan, of the superb Aaron Burr Cidery in Wurtsboro, N.Y., makes a wonderfully refreshing blend he calls Appinette by fermenting together farmed apples and traminette, a hybrid wine grape. Scar of the Sea, an excellent wine producer in San Luis Obispo, Calif., blends a different grape with Newtown Pippin apples each year — gamay in 2021 and palomino in ’22.
